Colour Contrast June 2019

This is a set of work that I keep returning to. The process is fairly intense so I can only manage a few weeks of it.

The basic idea is opposing colours directly in a gradual slide from one part of the painting to another. Below we have blue/orange moving to yellow/purple. I’m also placing the marks on top of either one or several washes. In this case a graded cobalt blue leaving the circles as pure white.

2 50 x 70 cm

Here I have moved the blur to green and the orange to red on a purple base.

3 50 x 35 cm

4 50 x 70 cm

Slightly more complex here with the yellow origin being central moving in two directions to bothe green and orange.

The colour transition is really highlighted in the white spaces.

7 50 x 350 cm

This painting uses exactly the same colours as the previous painting in combination with some of the techniques i’ve developed. I’m determined to make  landscapes in this way and I’m pleassed with the start. A setting sun and rising Moon.

8 50 x 35 cm  Here is the same idea. I’ve biased the purple to the red spectrum. Both paintings are made with exactly the same colours.
